SUMMER TRAINING SERIES - VIDEOS
The following video clips are examples of some of the specific skills that were addressed in the summer sessions. Hopefully these will provide a visual of when and where to perform these maneuvers and skills in game situations.

EVASIVE MANEUVER - Stutter Step
Below is a video of Crosby performing an evasive maneuver involving what some may call a 'Stutter Step' and is very effective in keeping defenders on their heels. The second video is from the World Cup and is an example of how a Defenceman can use this similar move going back for a puck and evading a forechecker.
SHOOTING IN STRIDE
These clips will show players shooting in stride (shooting off the 'back' foot). Notice how they 'disguise' their shot and catch goalies off guard with a quick release.
UNDER THE STICK SHOT (FEDEROV MOVE)
This particular move is mainly effective for forwards who are driving around a defenceman going to the net. Once a defenceman turns and begins to reach with his stick, the puck can be placed under his stick but a quick shot must also be performed in order to catch both the goalie and defenceman off guard thus creating a good scoring opportunity. This is a very high level move and timing is very key. With most skills this one will need practice and some patience to become proficient.
DEFLECTIONS
Below are videos of players deflecting shots. Note that it is more important to angle the stick blade and meet the puck rather than have a downward or upward motion with the stick blade to change the direction of the puck.
DEFENCEMAN DRAG AND SHOOT
For the defencemen out there, this is a quick clip of Seth Jones dragging the puck to the middle of the ice for a shot on net. Notice he is quickly crossing over backwards but more importantly he is not overhandling the puck. His head is up and is ready to release the shot at any time.
DEFENSIVE SLIDE ( 2 VS 1 )
Breaking up a 2vs1 play can be done in a few different ways. This particular method is performed usually around the hash marks and is performed when you are sure that the forward is running out of space and options.
The most important thing to remember when pulling off this move is to make sure you DO NOT slide back into your goalie. It is imperative that the direction of your slide takes you to the side of the net. Watch in this clip where the defenceman ends up and at what point he begins his slide.
SHOT BLOCKING
This clip is a good example of how a forward can properly block a shot when challenging a defenceman shooting at the point. Notice how Lewis 'stacks' his legs and slides on his side while lining up his legs in the shooting lane.
EVASIVE MANEUVER - BEHIND THE BACK
This evasive move by Jack Eichel is very effective when you have limited space and quickly need to change directions. This maneuver can used by both defencemen and forwards in tight areas along the boards when a tight turn is not feasible. Study and practice this move when you have the chance.
